Art That Listens: Motion Graphics Across Nine WA Regions
In a somewhat difficult to coordinate but extremely valuable celebration of Western Australia's artistic diversity, we're pumped to unveil our latest motion graphic project, 'Where the Land Speaks, Art Listens.'
The collaboration brings together twelve remarkable artists from WA's nine regions, forming an animation of artworks.
The project represents the rich voices across our regions, and their connection to land and to Country. The diversity is genuinely exciting - three incredible First Nations artists (Michelle Kickett, Kevin Merritt, and Raymond Edney) bringing their profound cultural perspectives, alongside established icons like Leon Pericles (bit of a legend, really) and some brilliant emerging talents.
The motion graphic will take centre stage on Regional Arts WA's new website homepage, with plans underway for a live debut at an upcoming lightshow in Bunbury. This innovative presentation format allows us to showcase how art transcends the vast distances between our regions, from the tropical Kimberley to Esperance.
Each artist brings their unique perspective to this visual piece: Jacky Cheng's intricate work from the Kimberley, Rani Fankha's distinctive style from the Goldfields-Esperance region, Sarah Green's Pilbara-inspired creations, and the collaborative magic of Helen Ansell and Kevin Merritt representing the Mid West. The South West's creative spirit shines through Kate Debbo and Leon Pericles, while Seirah Woodward captures the essence of the Great Southern.
In the end, what we've created is this gorgeous testament to WA's artistic soul - where the land really does speak, and art most definitely listens.
