Passing Go: Monopoly Margaret River

Here's something you probably didn't know - Margaret River has its own Monopoly board! A genuinely bespoke game built alongside local businesses, community organisations and the people who make this place what it is. We were lucky enough to bring that story to life on screen.

The Monopoly Margaret River film was created for the Margaret River Business Network, and the film follows a cast of local children as they quietly (and joyfully) take ownership of some of the region's most recognisable businesses and landmarks.

Inspired by the symmetry of Wes Anderson and the warmth of Amélie, we built a handcrafted world that feels playful, nostalgic and unmistakably South West.

The campaign was ideated, scripted, art directed and produced by Sophie Mathewson, alongside cinematographer and editor Tavian Ord. Working with Tavian — whose visual instincts have no doubt been shaped by growing up alongside his father, acclaimed ocean photographer Russell Ord — meant every frame was approached with patience and precision. Rather than relying on spectacle, the film finds its rhythm in colour, composition and small moments of curiosity.

Supported by Sean Tsu of Ovis Creative on lighting, the production remained deliberately lean, allowing the creative decisions to stay close to the people making them.

Shot entirely on location with local businesses and families, the campaign became something more than a commercial. It's a celebration of the place itself, viewed through the imagination of children who already know these streets by heart.

Premiering at the Margaret River Business Network and Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association Member Mingle before screening at Margaret River HEART during the school holidays, the campaign is a reminder that regional stories don't need to feel regional. With the right idea, the right collaborators and a little creative obsession, they can feel cinematic.
